Out of Hours Mental Health Care

Out of Hours Mental Health Care provision for 18-65 year olds

Pathway 1

Self-referrals of Patients not known to mental health services – needing an urgent response.

Self-referrals can be made to the 111 telephone service.  Calls will signposted to the most appropriate agency.

Where an emergency response is required due to the nature of the problem it may be appropriate to call 999 for assistance or to attend the Emergency Department at Derriford Hospital.

Pathway 2

Professional GP referrals of patients not known to mental health services but requiring an urgent response/mental health advice

5pm - 9am Monday to Friday
24/7 Weekends and Bank holidays

Call the Home Treatment Team on 01752 314033 for advice and to arrange an assessment when appropriate. 

This is not a self-referral service – the number should not be given to patients to refer in.

 

Pathway 3

Mental Health Matters Helpline

Available only for patients with ongoing care from the Community Mental Health Team, Assertive Outreach Team, Asylum Seeker Team, Complex Needs Team, Community Forensic Team, Community Learning Disability Team and the Older Peoples mental health service.

5pm - 9am Monday to Friday
24/7 Weekends and Bank holidays

Hospital Based Services

Psychiatric Liaison Service

9am - 9pm Monday to Sunday – nurse led service with consultant support
9pm - 9am – Monday to Sunday – Duty mental health junior doctor

Referrals for this service are taken directly from the Emergency Department, MAU, in patient wards but not from GPs.
