Colleagues went above and beyond the call of duty during last week’s ‘snowmageddon’ showing their determination and commitment to providing care and support despite the difficulties.
We had staff sleeping over at the inpatient units so they’d be ready for their shifts, nurses walking miles in the snow to see people in the community and colleagues pitching in with 4×4 lifts, to say nothing of the managers and admin teams who dealt with an organisational nightmare to keep services covered.
Our Staffroom Facebook page was filled with inspiring stories and supportive comments, and on Twitter the public showed their appreciation too.
Michelle Thomas, Director of Operations, wanted to thank everyone for their hard work during the snow. She said: “It was an extremely challenging few days but thanks to the professionalism and dedication of our staff across the organisation disruption to patient care was kept to a minimum.
“We’re really grateful to the community teams who went above and beyond to make sure all essential visits were made – helped by colleagues with 4x4s and offers of hot drinks. And also to all those colleagues who stayed overnight at various units to make sure they were on site ready for their shifts.
“Support staff also provided invaluable support – estates and hotel services in particular – to help our clinical colleagues. It was a real team effort and I really appreciate the huge effort everyone made.
“It’s great see so many supportive comments from staff and the public and everyone involved should feel really proud.”
