Local young people complete SHINE programme

4th April 2018

SHINE is a free 12 week community based programme for young people in Plymouth aged 13-17 years. The programme aims to empower young people to make healthy lifestyle choices and
to take ownership for their own physical health and emotional well being.

We enable them to identify triggers that cause relapse and to learn to recognise barriers to making changes . Activity sessions are also provided, aimed at improving fitness but also to help the participants gain in enthusiasm and confidence in accessing exercise beyond SHINE.

Our current group have just completed their SHINE programme. Congratulating them on their success was Ben Moore, paralympian snowboarder, recently returned from Pyeong Chang . Ben has overcome his own disabilities to achieve his dreams of competing in not only the Paralympics, but also at the X games in 2016. He has also competed at World Championship level in Canada.

Ben brought along one of his trophies to share with the young people, as well as presenting them with their certificates and giving an inspiring speech, which both parents and young people alike found interesting.

All the young people enjoyed their time at SHINE and stated that they would recommend the programme to other young people. To find out more about the programme, click here
