Drug and Alcohol Detoxification

For adults from the age of 18 years onwards who have a substance misuse problem.

The Livewell Southwest detoxification team work in partnership with the Drug and Alcohol Service, Harbour. Harbour is here to help anyone, including family and friends, affected by the misuse of drugs and alcohol by providing information, education, assessment and care co-ordination. We work from a therapeutic, person-centred and recovery focused model with the aim of enabling clients to be as independent in the community as possible. The service respects patients' confidentiality but will liaise with your registered GP regarding your treatment.

We manage community based treatment service and work together with other services, voluntary, private and public, to see that every available option to address individual needs is explored. We are able to take referrals from professionals, family members of self-referrals. This could be by letter, telephone or by calling in to our office. To access the detoxification team patients need to be open to Harbour as part of a structured treatment episode. We would not be able to take direct referrals to the detoxification team.

The detoxification team of nurses are able to offer assessment, phlebotomy, management and treatment including medically assisted community detoxification of adults with substance misuse (drug and alcohol). In-house prescribing for both opiate and alcohol detoxification along with any adjunct medication that may be indicated are also available.

Within the detoxification team we are able to offer structure advice on alternative coping mechanisms, relapse prevention, sleep hygiene and the importance of healthy eating for a patient using substances.
