Support if you have an Autism diagnosis

There is some extra support for you if you have an autism diagnosis.

P.A.S.S. Advice and Signposting Service

If you are over the age of 18, have a formal diagnosis of autism and have a Plymouth GP then you can access support through the advice and signposting service. The service is for adults with autism who are not eligible to access support through the Learning Disability Service.

You can refer yourself or somebody on your behalf can refer in to the service with your consent by filling in the referral form at the bottom of the page sending this via post or email: [email protected]

What support do we offer?

We have lots of resources to support you in your journey e.g. information on sensory processing, financial guidance, reasonable adjustments, housing, mental health.

We also offer face-to-face appointments to discuss your challenges in more detail and consider suitable signposting services.

We run small friendly groups for people who are autistic. Please email [email protected] if you wish to be added to the wait list.

Session 1 – What is Autism? We will discuss what autism is and how people are given the diagnosis of autism.
Session 2 – Sensory processing. We will explore how we experience sensory information like light, sound and taste (sensory processing) and how we understand the thoughts and feelings of others.
Session 3 – Employment and benefits. We will address employment, reasonable adjustments, your rights as an autistic person, support to find work, Universal Credit and Personal Independence payment.
Session 4 – Housing. We will discuss Plymouth housing, Devon Home choice and banding.

PASS can offer support and signposting to families or carers. Please email [email protected] or call 01752 434034 for more information.

PASS runs a peer support group in Plymouth. This is a friendly place to meet other autistic adults, have a warm drink and be supportive space.

We have a regular newsletter that has information for local events that might be of interest. If you are signed up but no longer want to receive this you can email us at [email protected] or call 01752 434034.

Can I get involved with how the service develops?

What does P.A.S.S. Advice Service not do?

Like most services P.A.S.S. is not able to do everything, so here is a list of what we are not able to provide:

  • Work with those without a formal diagnosis of autism
  • Care-coordinate or hold a caseload
  • Work with people under the age of 18
  • Work with those with a learning disability, including conducting eligibility assessments
  • Long term therapy and interventions
  • Not a crisis service
  • Conduct parenting assessments
  • Provide private assessments or interventions
  • Or provide expert witness assessments for court

P.A.S.S. is not a crisis service.  If you need crisis help you should contact First Response by calling 111 and selecting the mental health option.
