Professional Development

Livewell Southwest can only succeed in providing exceptional care for our local communities if we support our staff to develop their skills and careers.

We have a number of initiatives to support the professional development of Livewell Southwest staff, and understand the value of ensuring time and budget for training and development is protected. For example, all of our registered nurses have a minimum of three protected days per year for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and we also ring-fence a dedicated budget to support all CPD.

The Livewell Southwest Academy offers a variety of accredited courses, specialist training, professional development and a mix of mandatory, revalidation and refresher training schemes from a dedicated training facility in Plymouth. Staff can also access leadership and management training and take advantage of the latest best practice and national guidance to enhance their skills and professionalism.

An award-winning Health and Social Care Apprenticeship Scheme unlocks new talent by equipping the next generation of professionals with the skills they need to work within our clinical practice areas, while a programme to support and develop Assistant Practitioners works towards achieving registration with an affiliated body.

We further champion the talent and potential within our workforce via a programme of scholarship opportunities, which allow staff to pursue full time education while still receiving their normal pay.

As an employee-led organisation, we are totally committed to providing structured opportunities for training and development which ensure that all of our staff reach their full potential.
