Falls Prevention Class showcased in BBC coverage

by | 3rd February 2026 | News

Livewell Southwest’s Falls Management Exercise (FaME) class will be featured in a BBC Spotlight story on how prevention-focussed classes are reducing the rate of falls.

Our service operates around Plymouth, with similar services being available across Devon and Cornwall. Recent cohort figures show that Livewell’s FaME service saw a 57% reduction in falls amongst participants between July 2024 and 2025.

Filming took place with a FaME group in Plymstock and both session participants and class leaders were interviewed. The feature appeared on BBC Spotlight on Tuesday 3 February and can be viewed for 24 hours after on the BBC iPlayer (feature begins at 16:00).

Paula Swift, Health Improvement Manager appeared on the BBC Radio Devon breakfast show, and her interview is now available on BBC Sounds (begins at 02:26:00) and an article is also available on BBC News Online.

The FaME Programme is free if you are registered with a Plymouth GP and are aged 55 or over, with one or more of the following:

  • You have had a fall in the last 12 months
  • You are concerned that you might fall
  • You are feeling increasingly unsteady on your feet.

If you or someone you know could benefit from FaME support, visit https://www.oneyouplymouth.co.uk/fame/ or call 01752 437177.
