CAMHS: I’m a parent or carer

There is a difference between feeling a bit low from time to time and a serious emotional health problem. If you are worried about your child or need advice and support for coping with anything affecting your child’s emotional or mental health, there are different ways to seek help.

Livewell Southwest’s CAMHS has multidisciplinary teams that offer a high quality service to all children and young people between the ages of 5 – 18 who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health. We have dedicated CAMHS teams for different treatment pathways. These can include anxiety or mood disorders, ADHD/ADD, neurodiversity, self-harm, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic disorder, and psychotic disorders.

CAMHS Early Help Pathway supports children, young people and their families from 5-18 years old who are registered with a Plymouth GP and where there are concerns regarding emotional wellbeing & mental ill health.

It is the single point of access for all referrals into CAMHS from professionals, parents and young people and we can offer consultation, assessment, targeted low level intervention for up to 8 sessions (group, 1-1 or access for on-line intervention for anxiety & low mood) and deliver training.

The internet can be a rich source of information on child and young people’s health and wellbeing. But it isn’t always clear whether the information is reliable. Our Parent Resource Centre signposts you to websites containing trustworthy health information, recommended by our children’s services.

The advice includes common childhood illnesses, advice for new parents, school age children, dental, staying safe online, health and wellbeing.

The Health for Kids website contains information to support you during a child’s primary school years. It is primarily a health information and promotion website, covering important features of a child’s health and development, including healthy minds, healthy bodies, health issues and where to get professional help and support.

Users can also find out about accessing support from local services.  Health for Kids is not about managing serious illnesses for which more specialist websites already exist, but we’ve signposted to them where they are applicable.

All content has been produced by school nurses and a whole range of other health and wellbeing experts. The content published on this website is evidence based health information in line with NHS standards, including NICE Guidelines.

Health for Teens introduces a new and different way for young people aged 11-19 to learn about their health. It features bite-sized information on a comprehensive range of physical and emotional health topics for young people, including healthy eating, body image, managing stress, advice on relationships, puberty, sexuality and much more. Movie clips and quizzes make the site engaging and interactive, and young people are able to share content easily with their peers via social media.
