The CAMHS Neurodiversity Pathway is a part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and offers diagnostic assessment and intervention to children and young people aged from 5 to 18 years who have come into the CAMHS service for a specialist mental health intervention, who are also suspected to be also neurodiverse.
Neurodiversity describes differences in the ways that people’s brains work. We believe that everyone has a unique brain and therefore different skills, abilities, and needs. Neurodiversity is a term that covers conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Condition, ADHD, or Learning Disability to name a few.
Neurodiversity assessments can take place in clinic, at school and at the home. We also have an Intensive Support and Intervention team who provide support for young people and families who are within the neurodiverse pathway within CAMHS. We provide the young person, their families and the people who work with them, advice, strategies, and support via therapeutic activities within the young person’s environment. We work alongside a range of other professionals to ensure that families receive the best advice on how to support the young person when they present with distressed behaviours.
