Healthy Eating

Weight management programme patients

Losing weight should be about eating healthily not about permanent dieting. Evidence shows that most diets do not work in the longer term. Eating healthily is not just about cutting out individual foods or food groups or about counting calories, it’s about the balance of foods and ensuring you’re providing your body with good nutrition. It is easier to achieve and maintain a healthy weight if your body has the appropriate fuel.

At weight management we ask you to move away from restricted eating and from previous diet mindsets. We know that calorie counting is not the be all and end all of weight management. We introduce the bigger themes of healthy eating. We talk about the importance of food groups, eating regular meals and decreasing the number of snacks we choose. We look at the impact that food processing may have on the energy density of foods, suggest ways to lay out your meal plates and demonstrate what recommended portion sizes look like. Importantly we also discuss food labels and how you can choose lower fat, lower sugar and therefore lower calorie choices.

There are a number of useful resources on this page that can be used to support and supplement your weight management.
