Types of Play

Children need a wide range of play types to develop their understanding and language

Physical Play
Hide and seek, rough and tumble, going to the park, trampoline, scooters, ball games.

Exploratory Play
Pop-up toys, water, sand , play-dough, cause and effect toys (press the button – watch the lights flash), shape sorters.

Construction Play
Bricks, craft materials – paint, glue, scissors.

Doll Play
Dolls, teddies, large action figures, dressing, feeding and washing dolls, push chairs and prams, pretend cooking and food.

Small World Play
Vehicles, cars, garages, small action figures, train sets, animals, farm sets, small dolls house.

Pretend Play
Dressing up clothes, making den’s acting out characters off the TV, Role play
