#NAW2019 – Nikola & Kariena’s experience

by | 8th March 2019 | News

Now in its 12th year, National Apprenticeship Week is a celebration of the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy. To end the week, Livewell Southwest is looking at the experiences of two of our current apprentices.

Nikola Jura is a Coordinator and Eroster Administrator with the Clinical Support Team, and is undertaking an NVQ4 in Business and Administration.

Nikola says, “I decided on an apprenticeship as I have always wanted to learn, progress, and better myself, and an apprenticeship provides just that.

“The best thing about it is that, at this stage, my knowledge is based on work experience instead of pure theory, which makes actually completing the apprenticeship much easier.

“It’s definitely busy trying to juggle your workload with your apprenticeship work, however all of the teams I have worked with were very understanding and provided me with time for me to be able to do what I needed.

“Money is a pretty big motivation, but for me what gets me out of bed in the mornings is the satisfaction of getting things done. Livewell Southwest is a very supportive employer in terms of personal development, which I am very grateful for. Being able to learn whilst working is absolutely brilliant, and if anyone is considering an apprenticeship I would tell them to go for it!”

Kariena Robinson is a Clinical Assistant with the Infection Prevention and Control team, and is undertaking a Level 3 apprenticeship in Learning and Development.

Kariena says, “I decided upon an apprenticeship as I was looking to further my knowledge researching, delivering and supporting staff with their training needs, and an apprenticeship allows me do learn whilst still carrying out my job role.

“I enjoy learning, and working in the Infection Prevention and Control team gives me plenty of opportunities for this. Each day that I learn something new, I can see the correlation between the new information and where this comes into the apprenticeship.

“I feel very fulfilled knowing that what I do can make a difference to someone’s life, and the team I work with are brilliant – I’ve had an enormous amount of support from them as well as from Livewell Southwest itself.

“If you enjoy learning on the job, an apprenticeship is for you. It’s not as scary as people think and there is so much support available. I’d also highlight that apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers, they are there for anyone to do, regardless of their age.”
