Have your say on our Carer’s Policy

by | 12th January 2022 | News

As the community health and social care provider in Plymouth (as well as providing some services in South Hams and West Devon), we provide services as diverse as the Glenbourne acute psychiatric unit, district nursing services, health visiting, community mental health services, adult social care services and many, many more.

This means that we provide care for people who are carers as well as the people they care for. We are therefore committed to ensuring we recognise people’s caring responsibilities whenever we encounter them.

Our current Carers Policy is due to be reviewed this year and we really want to involve people who use our services in this process. This will help us make sure we include the issues that matter most to carers and the people they care for.

We are hoping to offer a range of ways for people to get involved. This might involve reading the current policy and making suggestions for improvement or joining in a group discussion with others. We might want to look at other carers policies to see if there are ideas we can borrow. We are open to all your ideas and suggestions.

We are therefore looking for people who have;

  • experience of being a carer for someone who uses (or has used) our services or uses our services themselves and has a carer
  • good listening skills
  • the ability to consider a number of perspectives
  • a positive approach to problem solving.

If you are interested, please contact us briefly describing,

  • Your caring responsibilities and/or interest in carers
  • Your preferences for involvement such as face to face groups, virtual groups, surveys, reviewing documents sent by e-mail or post etc
  • Your name, address, e-mail and telephone number

Alternatively, you may just have some thoughts and ideas about what a Carers Policy should look like that you just want to share without making an ongoing commitment. Either way, we would like to hear from you.

Due to the ongoing Covid restrictions (meaning many staff continue to work from home) our preferred mode of contact is via e-mail to  [email protected] .

However, we do not want to exclude people who do not use e-mail and in these instances please write to Claire Gatehouse, Service User Experience Manager, C/O Customer Services Team, Livewell Southwest, Windsor House (Southside), Tavistock Road, Plymouth, PL6 5UF.
