Livewell Southwest colleagues, Tracy Jones, Nursing Associate and Assistant Practitioner Lead and Nicky Arnold, West District Nursing Team Manager, have been given the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN) by community nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI).

The Queen’s Nursing Institute is a registered charity founded in 1887 which believes in the best possible nursing care for people at home. It works with nurses and decision-makers to ensure that good quality nursing is available to everyone, when they need it. It is for community nurses and focusses on leadership, high quality patient care and a commitment to practice.

Tracy and Nicky were presented with their awards during the Queen’s Nursing Institute Annual Awards Ceremony, held at Friends House in London, on the 28 November 2022.

The award celebrates innovative practice, a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership.

Dawn Slater, Director of People and Professionalism and Executive Lead for Nursing and AHPs at Livewell Southwest commented:

“The prestigious Queen’s Nurse title is bestowed by community nursing charity the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI). The oldest professional nursing organisation in the UK, the QNI is dedicated to improving the nursing care of people in their homes and in the community. The award recognises a commitment to high standards of person-centred care in community nursing.

“We have a growing number of Queen’s Nurses within Livewell and I am really delighted to congratulate Nicky Arnold and Tracy Jones who have been awarded the Queen’s Nurse Award. This is an amazing recognition of their contribution to the excellent care that is provided within the community and Nicky and Tracy embody compassion and commitment to excellent patient care and leadership for staff.”

Tracy had this to say:

“Becoming a Queen’s Nurse is a huge honour for me. It was a rigorous application process, but I am so humbled and pleased to be recognised for the work that I do. I love my role of supporting people to develop and learn within healthcare. Developing our workforce is instrumental in ensuring our patients are given evidence-based, patient centred care. We can clearly see that the Nursing Associate and Assistant Practitioner roles are making a huge meaningful difference to quality patient care and to supporting our Registered Nurses and AHPs within teams. As a Queen’s Nurse I look forward to engaging with wider forums to raise the profile and promote further the value of these roles.”

Nicky had this to say:

“It feels amazing to be a Queen’s Nurse and it’s an achievement that I am very proud of but also humbled by with those that supported my application. I am as passionate about nursing today as I was when I chose my A-levels and set my goal to become a nurse; I had never envisaged becoming a Team Manager but here I am and who knows where the path leads for the future. I strive to contribute, support and implement change and quality improvement within the service to enhance patient care and experience whilst acknowledging nothing is possible without a fantastic team around me and their health and wellbeing is paramount. I feel privileged to have joined the growing Queen’s Nurse community in Livewell but also regionally and nationally; as it provides exciting opportunities to network and share the dedication and commitment I have in ensuring we are delivering ‘gold standard care’ to our patients.”
