Continence Service

Continence Service

Livewell Southwest’s Continence service aims to provide a local, accessible service to reduce the incidence of bladder and bowel dysfunction by the provision of comprehensive and effective assessment, treatment, advice and review.

A conservative treatment programme is offered for patients with continence problems who are keen to seek ways of improving the management of their difficulties.  The assessment includes bladder scanning, general advice on fluids/diet/smoking/lifestyle changes, pelvic floor, etc.

The Continence Nurses offer a wide range of training and education such as:

  • Bowel Management, Assessment and Catheter Training

Care Homes and Care Agencies are supported by a programme of education relating to continence care.

Please note that patients who require continence service support should be referred through their registered GP Surgery or, if mobile, can attend a continence clinic, based in either Plymouth, South Hams or West Devon.
